Have you ever heard of a water cake? Well it’s a Japanese rice cake, also known as Mizu Shigen Mochi, that is clear and jiggly while appearing exactly like a huge drop of water. This water mochi was first served and made popular by a confectionery in Yamanashi. Inconceivably, it’s both solid and liquid at the same time and if you don’t eat it within 30 minutes it disappears. To kick things up a notch, Twitter user mithiruka shared a pic of a clear water cake in the shape of a sleeping cat and needless to say…it’s purrfect!
The Internet is going absolutely crazy about it, as the photo was posted on Twitter, and it’s gone viral in Japan since with over 26k likes and 21k retweets. If you want to make a water cake yourself, you’ll need water, sugar and Japanese agar powder. See this recipe for full instructions.
